The bus stop shelter along Bukit Timah Road near Newton is blocked by railings due to space constraints, informs the LTA in a response, explaining why it was constructed as such.
In May last year, another STOMPer had also sent in a photo of the bus stop, questioning its functionality when it is blocked by railings.
Said the LTA spokesperson (Feb 23):
"Bus shelters are generally placed at regular intervals for the convenience of commuters.
"Where site conditions allow, a typical bus shelter is located along the straight section of the bus bay to allow buses to stop for passengers to alight and board at the designated bus stop location expediently and safely.
"This particular bus stop along Bukit Timah suffers from space constraints.
"Unlike other bus stops there is insufficient space to site the shelter parallel to the bus bay, as the bus shelter requires a width of at least 3.6m.
"As an alternative, the shelter was constructed a slight distance away from the bus bay.
"Without this arrangement, commuters will be waiting for the bus without a shelter.
"The railings were installed to guide commuters to board the bus at the designated bus bay, keeping them safely away from the carriageway.
"They also help to deter bus drivers from stopping at the tapered end of the bus bay and hamper traffic while alighting passengers."

Bus come = go out of rain and around railings to board bus = TIO STOMP LIAO
Solution: Aligh the bus stop until the Bus Yellow line as the bus can stop there and passenger can board too
