Aunties 'chope' with tissue paper, doctors use stethoscopes

STOMPer Jo was appalled that a few doctors used their stethoscopes to reserve a table in a foodcourt at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). The STOMPer feels medical equipment shouldn't be placed on tables like this one for hygiene purposes.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I was having lunch at the Kopitiam located in SGH a few days ago and was appalled that a few doctors had used their stethoscope to reserve their seats.

"Imagine what those stethoscopes were used for prior to being placed on the food court table!

"Also, it would be disgusting to place the stethoscope on the chest of their patients after placing on tables in a food court.

"Despite doctors being required to sterilize their stethoscopes regularly, I believe that this practice of misusing their stethoscope should not exist in the first place.

"How can a medical equipment be used to reserve a seat? Even a packet of tissue paper would be deemed as more appropriate in this case.

the stomper is right in this. the cross infection of a dirty table to the doctors hands to the patient is very high! they should not do that. The table looks clean but it isnt. have you seen the aunties who clean tables...? with the same cloth they clean and clean and clean without rinsing the cloth of changing it.! That table is not clean and i wouldnt want a doctor to touch me if i was sick if he doesnt practise hygiene. This is s blooming hospital for heavens sake and he is a doctor. He / she should know better!

No matter how godly they may seem, snatching many from the jaws of death, we know doctors are humans, and humans are imperfect. But the fact that doctors are held to the utmost esteem by the public means we also expect a much higher standard of public behaviour from them. People look to men and women who wear stethoscopes round their necks with awe, admiration and respect. The stethoscope is not an ordinary object like a handphone or packet of tissue, but a symbol of prestige and power ... power to heal, relieve suffering and save lives. How many bright and promising youths out there yearn in vain to get a chance to own those stethoscopes and save lives? But there will always be the privileged few who don't seem to value their great blessings. Such is the irony of life.

yes, because this is absolutely groundbreaking, noteworthy news. doctors are absolutely horrible people, especially those who "chope" seats with their stethoscopes! we should name and shame them and then ban them from ever practicing medicine again. i don't want their filthy stethoscopes touching my relatives! The SMC (singapore medical council) should make it known in their "Code of Conduct" that using your stethoscope to reserve seats at a kopitiam is both morally degrading and socially inappropriate, because doing so will undoubtedly start a slippery slope of "butchers using knives and menstruating women using pads" to chope their seats too. i don't care if they work 90 hour work weeks trying to save lives, they suck for setting such bad examples in society!
