Construction debris dumped into drain
STOMPER Mark noticed that debris from a nearby construction site had been dumped into a drain at 34 Lorong 33 Geylang.
Said the STOMPer:
"A construction company has been dumping debris into the drain at 34 Lorong 33 Geylang.
"I've noticed that this drain is always filled with debris.
"But I was surprised to see the construction worker actually dump the debris into the drain today!
"I'm not sure if this is industry practice approved by any government authority but something has to be done!
"It is such an irresponsible act!"

See the 2nd half of 'Wet at Cyrene with Flooding at Sea' (24 Dec 11):

Thx for the news. It seems that S'pore does condone slavery -- as long as no one "officially" knows or talks about it.
The issue of unpaid wages doesn't just affect foreign employees. A friend's brother (S'porean since birth) wasn't paid for months of work done, & the boss kept giving excuses for withholding the pay. Then there's the other issue of unpaid OT/weekend "volunteer" work by local employees.
As for the disregard of ECM, I've seen construction sites belonging to public agencies & so-called "green/ healthy" projects discharging copious amount of silt/soil into drains & canals. Talking about utter irony (& hypocrisy).
Of course not. Such a selfish & blatant disregard of Earth-Control Measures (ECM) should not be condoned. Dumping of soil & other debris into drains/canals constitutes water pollution -- it exacerbates the sediment load, & reduces the carrying capacity of S'pore's waterways.
While the evidence is still at site, pls contact PUB with the relevant details.
