STOMPer Quek was concerned that a large pile of rubbish dumped behind A-Z building would attract pests and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Said the STOMPer:
"Large piles of rubbish have been dumped at the back of A-Z Building.
"The building has been vacant for some time.
"No action has been taken to clear up the rubbish, and it has been three weeks already.
"The dump attracts pests such as cockroaches, rats, and worst of all, MOSQUITOES.
"As it has been raining for the past few weeks, mosquitoes have been breeding there.
"A mosquito typically takes five to 14 days to breed.
"Imagine the number of mosquitoes that have bred by now, contributing to the rise of dengue fever.
"Which relevant authority should be looking into this case?
"Furthermore, the ongoing campaign on dengue fever awareness is being promoted by NEA.
"However, what are the actions taken against companies that are found to be breeding mosquitoes in their premises?
"There were 263 cases of dengue fever in 2011.
"It seems that there is no stringent regulation imposed on companies.
"I will definitely not be surprised to see more cases of dengue fever in 2012."
