Cockroaches found in 2 Tampines Kopitiam stalls: Owners fined, says NEA

The Kopitiam food court located in Tampines has undergone NEA inspections, after cockroaches were reported on the premises. Two stall owners have since been fined by the NEA, who are continuing to monitor the situation.

In an earlier article, STOMPer SKL had said that he discovered many cockroaches as he was sitting down to breakfast at the eatery one morning.

A spokesperson for the NEA made the following reply:

"We refer to the STOMP posting, 'Simply nauseating - Kopitiam table has 'a dozen' cockroaches crawling under it' on 29 Oct 2011.

"Our initial investigations at the Kopitiam coffeeshop located along Tampines Street 32/34 found the premises to be free of cockroach infestation, following a round of pest control treatment initiated by the management. Subsequent inspections found cockroaches in two stalls, for which the licensees were fined. We have reminded both the management and licensees to ensure that their premises are properly maintained and free of pest infestation.

"NEA will continue with its inspections and education to impress upon all food establishments the need for proper pest control measures in eateries.

"As STOMPer SKL has also provided the feedback to NEA, we have since contacted her to provide an update on the actions taken."
