A student of the school that compelled students to buy official shoes at $25 a pair has weighed in with comments. He feels the new rule is especially unfair to those who never broke school rules in the first place.
In an earlier story, STOMPer Adeline had recently received a letter from a secondary school which stated all students had to purchase newly-introduced standard school shoes at $25 a pair, with two pairs of socks.
The student commented:
"Our school's discipline master said that 'more than 50 percent of the students' shoes are not up to standard.
"Actually, most of the students are in white shoes. I dare say 90 percent of the students are in white shoes.
"Look at new school shoes, they're covered in green patches. They tell us to wear white shoes, but make new school shoes in green instead.
"If more than 50 percent of students were not wearing white shoes, then there would be no reason for us to complain.
"If the school said, 'we encourage you to buy the school shoes so you will not have trouble buying shoes that meet the standard', we would not complain.
"But telling us 'it's compulsory for all students to buy them' is very unfair. Especially for students that are already wearing white shoes and have to buy the new shoes, since they did not break any school rules.
"I guess the school is just trying to find reasons and ways to earn money."
