What Bugs Me
These charity posters are appealing, but donating is such a hassle

STOMPer Ben thinks these posters appealing for donations are eye-catching, but reckons allowing people to donate via SMS is more convenient than having donors go through websites.

He says:

"I've noticed these charity posters appealing for donations to the SMRT Silver Tribute Fund have eye-catching graphics that attract the attention of passersby.

"However, it is such a hassle to visit the website to find out how to help the charity.

|"I suggest a scheme where people can donate via SMS. The amount to be donated will be charged to their mobile phone bill.

"After looking at a poster, the quickest and most hassle-free way of making a donation is through SMS.

"This allows for a higher possibility of the donor acting immediately after they experience feelings of empathy and sympathy after looking at a charity poster.

'Security features can be put in place to ensure that the system is not abused. For example, the donor could be required to provide details of himself via SMS before making a donation.

"The charity could also work with service providers so users are not charged for the SMS they send out to make donations.

"The service provider may also offer rebates to the donor’s mobile phone bill. For example, for every $10 donated by donor to charity, the service provider will give $0.10 rebate or free minutes of calls/number of SMSes."

If it's a hassle then don't donate lor.

The reason why they're not using SMS is because children might SMS without knowing how much is being deducted etc. Worse if their parents disapprove of such donations. That's why donating in person to the organisation or donating through the website is a safer way.

If you find it a hassle, then you're not sincere at all.
