What Bugs Me
Bakery should have sign telling customers only maximum of two 5-cent coins allowed

STOMPer Shidah felt greatly inconvenienced when she tried to pay for her $1.60 purchase at a bakery using a number of 5-cent coins but was told that they only accepted a maximum of two 5-cent coins for any purchase.

The STOMPer recounted:

"I went to Swee Heng at Sembawang today and bought bread worth $1.60.

"I gave the cashier a $1 coin and 60cents in 5-cent coins.

"To my surprise, the cashier said they only accept a maximum of 2 pieces of 5-cent coins.

"The reason given is that they do not sell items with 5cents at the end.

"I am not being unreasonable by buying something worth $16 and paying in 5-cent coins.

"I would really appreciate it if shops like this who do not treat 5cents as money put up a big fat sign in their shops saying they do not accept 5cents so as not to inconvenience customers."

Use the 5c coins back to where you get them from, why want to dump it on the confectionery? Look at it yourself, will you be pleased to receive 10pcs of 5c coins for your change? Only 10pcs!!! You don't need to answer here, answer to yourself in the heart!

To all who want to get rid of the 5 cent coins, you can give them to me. :-)

5 cents are legal tender up to $2. The shops have to accept them under the law. On the other hand the shops can reject them provided sign boards are placed outside the shops. No notice or sign boards, shops have to accept 5 cents coins.

Can't blame them, first of all their items don't have denomination of 5cents. And they don't do banking everyday, 2ndly bank have certain days of coin changing. Same thing if the cashier ran out of coins n force to give back change in 5cents to u. How u feel?????
