The Year of the Rabbits is not such a good year for rabbits after all, says STOMPer Jacelyn who shares photos of two rescued rabbits. One had its right ear cut off while the other had a condition which causes his head to hang permanently to the side, resulting in balancing problems.
The STOMPer said in an email (July 4):
"The House Rabbit Society (Singapore), HRSS, rescued 9 pedigree rabbits from a HDB block at Tampines Ave 9 on Saturday, 2 July 2011, after a tip-off from a concerned member of the public.
"All 9 rabbits were found abandoned in an old rusty 2-feet cage.
"They were not only left at the void deck without food or water, all 9 rabbits were packed into the cage like sardines with absolutely no space to move about.
"This thoughtless act, if not intercepted, would have resulted in the rabbits dying slow, painful deaths.
"We urge all Singaporeans to help stamp out animal abuse by making a police report or calling the SPCA if such cases are witnessed.
"With concerted effort, we can make this next half of the Year of the Rabbit a good one for the rabbits as well."
