In Malaysia, consumers have been urged to avoid popular Korean noodles 'Shin Ramen' as it is suspected to contain plasticisers. However, the same noodles are still being sold here, say concerned STOMPers.
According to recent news reports, tests on 'Shin Ramen' are ongoing in Malaysia. The product has been pulled from shelves there, but why not here, they ask. Today (June 13) , a report carried in Lianhe Zaobao says that the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has declared the noodles free from plasticisers.
Said ramen addict (June 13):
"Is Shin Ramen safe to eat?
"I am upset to read about the Malaysian Health Ministry's recall of the Korean instant noodles 'Shin Ramen'.
"I am now wondering if the Shin Ramen cup noodles sold in Singapore are safe to eat.
"It's my favourite brand of instant noodles and I have quite a few cups stocked in my kitchen!"
STOMPer lyn also shares her views (June 12):
"Giant still selling Shin noodles.
"Is this the same brand that Malaysia recalled? Just double checking.
"I thought Malaysia and some countries have recalled the 'Shin Ramen' noodles for tests.
"Are sellers in Singapore doing the same?
"I was surprised to find the Giant supermarket in Marine Parade still selling the noodles, and even giving a discount on the product.
"Are they trying to get rid of the goods fast before any major recalls?
