Why do we need these barriers at MRT stations?
STOMPer Tony Lee wonders why these barriers are needed at MRT stations.
He points out that HDB parapet walls should also be built higher and overhead bridges be caged, if the intention is to prevent people from jumping off the platforms.

"Shouldn't HDB walls go full height, and overhead bridges be caged as well?"

LOL. did you ever see people falling off the overhead bridge accidentally? No right? of course to prevent accidents, and act as a barrier for those who likes to stand in front of the yellow line. because they realise some people don't care~

Obviously the barriers are to prevent accidents, not to make it suicide proof. If a person wants to die, you can set up all the barriers in the world and he will still find a way to kill himself...

Last time no one jumped onto the tracks to commit suicide. But once someone did, the trend started. People are jumping onto the tracks to commit suicide. Therefore the need for barriers. If people are not committing suicide there, I'm sure there would still be no barriers. No one has fallen into the tracks cos they were drunk or cos people push them. All were suicide cases. People don't jump off overhead bridges to commit suicide, therefore no need for 'caged' up bridges.
