STOMPer Red is dismayed by pictures showing members of the Philippine police force and students posing for pictures in front of the tour bus involved in Monday's (Aug 23) hostage crisis that left eight Hong Kong tourists dead.
"Where is the respect for the victims, and the common sense?" asks the STOMPer.
The pictures show schoolgirls and policemen posing and smiling for pictures at the location where a bus load of tourists had been held hostage by a disgruntled ex-policeman, Rolando Mendoza, armed with an M-16 assault rifle in a desperate bid to get his job back.
According to news reports, commandos were forced to storm the bus and start firing when the gunman started shooting.
A sniper shot killed Mendoza in the final moments of the 12-hour standoff. Eight tourists were killed while seven others suffered injures and had to be hospitalised.
STOMPer Red says:
"This incident is hardly over, and these people are treating the tragic scene like a tourist attraction.
What is going on in these people's minds and hearts, especially the policemen?
This shows utter disrespect for the victims and their surviving family members."
