What Bugs Me
Hello, is Ubin part of Malaysia? Maxis signal stronger than Starhub's

While on Pulau Ubin STOMPer Sailor received better reception from Malaysian telco Maxis than Singapore's own Starhub. He wondered how this could be when Ubin is officially part of Singapore.

In an email today the STOMPer wrote:

"This morning I was cycling on Pulau Ubin when my mobile phone started ringing.

"I saw the words 'STARHUB. WELCOME TO MALAYSIA ...'

"I then clicked the 'Reply' button and to my surprise I saw MY MAXIS at the top of the screen.

"How could I possibly be in Malaysia when I was physically present on Pulau Ubin?

"Is it because signals by Starhub are too weak and hence I keep receiving signals from My Maxis.

"Do I pay overseas roaming rates if I use my phone under My Maxis?"

these problems are usually caused by phone mixed-up-received-signals. in ubin, you are able to receive m1 starhub singtel and some malaysian networks.
不用大惊小怪, just a normaly case

If u have an iPhone u switch yr carrier button to strictly on Singapore signal rather then Auto. I'm not sure abt other phones. Since Pulau Ubin is located too near with Malaysia it's nothing impossible that the Maxis signal overrides the local signal. When I was in Kranji strangely the Maxis signal can still be received. That's why it's better we switch the carrier button to local then Auto. In fact Singtel signal can also be received along and some parts of inner Johor Bahru. Ok what..
