What Bugs Me
Not 1, but 2 soldiers shot in Thailand: Why didn't MINDEF give full disclosure?

STOMPer Integrity wonders why MINDEF did not disclose that a second soldier, a full-time national serviceman, was also shot in the same incident. The news of the second shooting only surfaced when a relative of Private J. Pritheery Raj contacted The Straits Times.

In the first report on May 24, a Thai farmer had fired his shotgun at 1st Sgt Woo Teng Hai while the latter was out on a night exercise in Thailand. The regular commando is said to have been blinded in his right eye.

The Defence Ministry only admitted yesterday (May 25) that Private Raj had also been hurt in the same incident. The NSF still has two shotgun pellets lodged in his cheekbones and right shoulder. He has been on medical leave for the last two months.

In the STOMPer's email:

"I read the news about the second soldier shot in the news today with surprise.

"Why didn't MINDEF give full disclosure about the second soldier who was also hurt?

"Is it because he is 'just' a NSF Private?

"Apparently the relative of the poor Private had to contact the media directly after reading the report about the commando being shot by the Thai farmer."

Accidents do happen...? Yeah. Tell that to the families and loved ones of the deceased. Jerk.

Singapore is lucky enough to have training space loan by Kingdom of Thailand. Without the vital space that is almost 4 times bigger than Singapore itself, I do not think that SAF will be able to test out its latest defense technology. We are to be grateful for that space. What happen to these 2 unfortunate soldier is something SAF wants to avoid. Accidents do happen. I know very well that the farmer shoots in his defense that he thought they were intruders. It is known that these 2 soldiers have wondered off way out of the boundary of the training ground. We do not point fingers to who is at fault here. Singaporean need to be more grateful to Thailand. I am sure that those SAF personnel who have been up there to train regularly (not the NSF) know that Thai people are humble and kind.

incidents of such do happen not to mention being in the armed forces. remember the Taiwan jet crash? good thing there were no lost of lives. permananet disability and at such a yong age is unfortunate but guess the SAF will "make up" to the serviceman. it happened in line of duty and no one wants such to happen.
we may consider ourselve lucky duuring NS days? some had close shaves/near misses and some are not. lets all pray we will keep the peace at some expense and appreciate what our brave soldiers are facing.

Why they do their training there?.....In the middle of Thai unrest. I think the farmer shoot them because he thought these army guys are going to form another party called the 'Green Shirt'!
