Instead of the usual flames jetting from these columns on Jurong Island, STOMPer Cake spotted thick black smoke instead. She wonders why this pollution is allowed to continue.
Many STOMPers have reported seeing flames rising from the oil refinery columns on Jurong Island. These are caused by a practice known as 'flaring' and is believed to be a routine process.
In an email today (Mar 21) the concerned STOMPer wrote:
"It has been weeks since many STOMPers wrote in about red glowing lights from Jurong Island.
"I wonder why this hasn't caught the attention of the NEA.
"This morning, instead of the usual fire burning, thick dark smoke could be seen rising up in the direction of Portsmouth Road.
"I hope the relevant authorities could look into this, as this clearly causes air pollution, and residents are breathing the polluted air."

From that view, the smoke can be from any place in that general direction. Why must only be from Jurong Island.
Don't u know any refinery there emit black smoke anyhow will be fine by NEA. All these companies require to keep records of their emissions.
This is Singapore lah.
Singaporeans want to pursue a higher living standard, that's why we pride ourselves as the green city. Going green isn't that hard, it takes some effort for people like Stomper Cake to bring up cases as such so that you and i have a better place to live in.
*on the contrary, if you do not think likewise, i suggest you go back to india/china/hongkong and live in the haze.
