STOMPer Brandon was appalled that the foot massager he redeemed from Gain City came with faulty batteries. Besides this, the real price of the massager was also not what Gain City had claimed it to be in the advertisement.

The STOMPer said in an email:

"As a loyal customer of Gain City for many years, I am sad to write a email to STOMP with regards to the bad experience that I had today (March 8).

"I am 29-years-old this year. In conjunction with Gain City's promotion, any customer who happens to share the same birthday with Gain City's 29th Anniversary Celebration this year, will receive a gift worth SGD$199/- if he makes a trip down to any of the three exhibition showrooms on the 6th or 7th March.

"One can redeem the gift with the newspaper cut-out coupon (Xin Min Daily Gain City's full page advertisement on 5th March) and one's NRIC.

"I made a trip down on 6th March and arrived at Gain City Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 by 1105am.

"I asked the staff of Gain City where to redeem the gift but they claimed to be not aware about this promotion.

"They asked among themselves and later one of the staff attended to me, verifying my coupon and NRIC and handing me the 'Prize'.

"It was a foot massager and cost only US$14.86 without any freight cost.

"The price was not what Gain City claimed - SGD$199/- reflected in the newspaper coupon.

"As a customer, I felt cheated. How could Gain City, such a big company celebrating its 29th birthday, do such a thing?

"Gain City should know that if their customers find out, it will reflect badly on the company image.

"In addition to this, the foot massager given to me was of bad quality.

"Two of the batteries were leaking and spoilt. This poses a dangerous threat as the equipment may explode and cause fire hazards.

"This gave an impression to us customers that Gain City does not value its customers' health and safety.

"Gain City was not sincere in the promotion at all."

"So far, there has been no reply or call back from Gain City representatives with regards to this issue."
