What Bugs Me
Bold rats at Kim Keat Link even emerge in broad daylight

Rats at Kim Keat Link have been getting bolder and bolder, even appearing by day to feed on scraps left for the birds by people there, according to STOMPer Kevin.

Here's what Kevin wrote in an email today (Nov 17):

"The location is at Kim Keat Link between Block 247 and 246.

"Residents here have written in and called the Toa-Payoh Bishan Town Council's hotline with regards to the increasing number of rats.

"They live inside the drains, near the walkways leading to the carpark.

"Someone has been feeding the birds here attracting the rats to this area.

"I hope something can be done before the situation gets really bad."

Another solution is to have well managed community cats (that are neutered and cared for by residents who feed responsibly). Read

Rather, the cats simply leave their scent. Once rodents get a whiff of feline presence, like gangsters under a gang injunction, they move on.

"It's the smell of the cat and the cat urine," said animal rescuer Jane Garrison, a member of Voice for the Animals' board, who selected the half dozen feral cats for the Southeast stati

The culprits are human who throw food down to feed the birds.
Town council must "cull" the real culprits instead of poisoning the birds ===>NOT EFFECTIVE (http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/CAMPAIGNS/wildlife/ALL/348/)
Poisoning the rats will lead to environmental damage as poisons are inserted into the ground.
Create your own poster "PLEASE STOP THROWING FOOD DOWN TO FEED THE BIRDS. THE TOWN COUNCIL WILL POISON THE BIRDS!" and also insert into flats suspected of throwing food down. It will work!

There are rats, rats, big as pussy cats in the store.... Yes, why are there so many rats around? Main reason is many good samaritans are coming round to feed the stray cats so since the cats got free, good food, what for they waste their time and energy chasing after and eating the rats?

These creatures can never be eradicated........be it rats, cockcroaches, flies, mosquitoes, viruses etc..... We could only prevent the population from explosion. But, everybody has a part to play especially we residents.
