What Bugs Me
Pulau Ubin stray dogs are menace to visitors

STOMPer Cat lover says the stray dogs on Palau Ubin are a menace to visitors.

In an email to STOMP today (Nov 1), the STOMPer says:

“These pictures were taken at a dirt track in Pulau Ubin. The place is a favourite haunt for stray dogs.

“Since many kampung dwellers have moved out of the island, many of these dogs are left to wander in the wild.

“They are forced to forage for food as there is nobody to feed them.

“When I approached one of the dogs, it bared its teeth and snarled at me. I quickly beat a hasty retreat. They are also a menace to cyclists, hikers and swimmers.

“I hope NEA and NParks can round up these wild dogs so that public safety would not be compromised.”

the worst thing that could happen is that the retarded authorities actually listen to her... if the dogs at Ubin are so feral, they'd have mauled someone by now. fact is that they haven't, & that tells us something.

you are definitely selfish, I went there a few times never have problems with any dogs all are nice and friendly fyi..would you want AVA to cull your cats if they scratch someone or attack someone? Please dog is of fresh and blood too be a little bit more patient with animals, they have a right to live too!!!

Stomper Cat Lover, I truly believe you are talking cock. Dogs will not snarl or bite unless provoked or food being snatched. I hope IMH can round you up too since you are of unsound mind with such silly comments made.

P. Ubin is one of our very rare nature spots and surely, feral dogs, snakes, monkeys and whatnot are endemic to the place. These dogs are integral to the ecosystem. Dogs all over the world are known to weave in and out of human habitats. Right across the causeway, there are thousands of stray dogs that are just as 'menacing' as P. Ubin dogs, why don't you complain to M'sian AVA? It doesn't mean animals that stand in your way should be killed wherever you go. Don't expect P. Ubin to be any part of cosmopolitan S'pore mainland, it's not meant to be. If you want to venture, you got to play down your expectations. Here are some tips: bring some meat to gain their favour, never look at a dog in the eye, never make a hasty retreat like what you did (the more you run, the more they may give chase). Visit nature spots with an open mind and play down your reservations, like how you're tolerant of cats.

If the dogs are really nasty, i don't think Cat lover will be able to take their photos. She is a stranger to them, what was she expecting them to do? Wag their tails and welcome her as if she has been feeding them? Such selfish request to have the dog rounded up and be killed. It is not as if she is visiting Ubin everyday. Instead of complaining, why not start a sterilisation program to reduce their population; why not feed them to win their trust. So much complain but no action on her / his part.

Stomper Cat Lover where is your prove? your photo only show a few cute dogs in their own world, if they wanted to attack you, you think you still have time to take picture? (AVA pls put those cat to sleep, everytime i walk past those cat they show their nails and try to scratch me.) I ALSO CAN SAY.
