STOMPer Jessie Tan was at the Glutton's Bay food centre near the Esplanade and was irked when she saw that the patrons there showed no initiative in clearing their trays.
In an email sent STOMP today (Aug 1), the STOMPer wrote:
"Last week, my family was having a meal at the 'Makansutra' eateries after a musical show at the Esplanade.
"What irk me was the tables are occupied by the Y-Gen yuppies, after they finished, the tables were in a big mess and the next patron has to wait, like 10 to 15 minutes before an old uncle with white hair, moving at snail pace and an equally old auntie, slowly cleared the tables.
"It is a very sad sight. Such sights are duplicated in many foodcourts!
"Is this the way we want to show the world our Singaporean culture?
"Can't we have a gracious society ? Why can't public education for public areas be implemented ?
"We will not need so many foreign workers then. The able seniors, if they want to be active, can still wipe tables minus the messy plates and foods.
"Singaporean are well educated and are already 'programmed', such actions and respects in public areas need just a little reminder.
"We will have a more gracious society then."
