Bride-to-be circulates 'ang pow' rates among her guests

STOMPer WhyGetMarried felt it was inappropriate for this bride-to-be to circulate a list of 'ang pow' rates among the guests attending her wedding banquet.

In Singapore, it is customary among the Chinese for guests to present newlyweds with a small cash token in an 'ang pow' or red packet when attending their wedding banquet to help defray the cost.

The STOMPer wrote:

"This kiasu/cheapo bride-to-be posted a picture of 2012 hotel wedding banquet market rates on facebook to inform her guests on what to do for her wedding.

"Many couples think of holding banquets to earn an one-off fast money.

"Oh please! That's disgusting! If you don't have enough money, don't get married lah!

"The divorce rates here are so high.

"Society should establish a practice for couples who divorce within three years to return their 'ang pow' money with a premium."

Hello, its not the bride that is cheapskate or something ok?? She treat people in hotel with abalone and sharks fin ok? Not like coffee shop dinner!! So it's only right for guests to pay her back! If you don't want to pay then don't go la! Its not the bride that is cheapskate! It is the guests who are unwilling to pay at least $100 for good food that are!

Now before her wedding, she post Ang Pow Rates. After getting married and when her husband is sick and tired of her already, she will post "Special Services" rates!!! Watch out for it!!!

It is sad that Singaporeans equate a wedding with only money and food but totally disregard love, friendship, and 'here's to living together happily ever after'. How about 'giving' because you are honoured to witness a wonderful tradition and the beginning of a life-long partnership?

She needs the Ang Pow to pay for the banquet.
