STOMPer Jeff was concerned to hear his teenage daughter describe a man in his 40s who had persistently asked her if she needed a lift in his silver sedan. The incident occurred along this stretch of Gilstead Road, in the Newton area.
The STOMPer wrote:
"One afternoon a few days ago at about 12pm, my teenage daughter was walking along the usually quiet Gilstead Road when there was no one in sight.
"She was approached by the driver of a silver sedan, who wound down his window and asked if she needed a lift to the main road.
"He was alone in the car at the time.
"According to her, he was in his mid 40s or thereabouts and was wearing dark-framed glasses. He had slightly greying hair, with a tanned complexion.
"He also spoke good English and was quite persistent in giving her a lift despite being told she didn't need it.
"It is quite strange for a guy to offer a lift to a young teenager on a bright sunny day (no rain, not late at night, etc).
"I urge parents to be careful and to keep a lookout for this man who may be up to no good."
