What Bugs Me
Do youths these days think it is 'uncool' to give up seats to the elderly?

STOMPer Alvin was surprised to read about how this girl's friends apparently consider giving up seats to those in need 'uncool'. He feels young people these days differ greatly from his own generation.

Said the STOMPer:

"I came across this poster on a bus. After reading it, I felt that the Generation Z mentality are quite different from my generation (Gen Y).

"In the second paragraph, she wrote that her friends thinks its uncool to give up seat for elderly and frail passengers.

"During my time, my circle of friends would all give up their seats without hesitation.

"At that age, where they are still having social studies as a lesson, they shouldn't be feeling that way.

"It seems that the children are simply following the actions which adults set."

Waste of money to design and set up these posters! Habits cannot be changed overnight. Selfishness and inconsiderateness are evident in all passengers. No one wants to move to the rear. No one wants to bring down their knapsack. Everyone stares into their smart phones. No penalties for being yourself. No one can force you to move in. It's a free world.

From my observation, younger people have a higher tendancy of giving up their seats as compared to those older (especially those 30 and above.)

Whenever I am on the train, I see the foreigners giving up their seats. Singaporeans have less intention to do so.

Nowadays children had been given the best and is too pampered. They followed their parent, you could see the new generation adult usually fight for seat in the mrt. So like parent like son lloh

It's more of the "yes, you get up, this seat is for me" response from people that made people not want to give up their seats.
