What Bugs Me
Dog owner leaves my mum bleeding after pet attacks her

STOMPer Rachel was livid when she found out her mother was left to fend for herself after being bitten by a dog at a park in Hougang. Apparently, the dog owner just left with his pet after the attack and didn't bother checking to see if the elderly woman was ok.

STOMPer Rachel wrote:

"At about 6pm yesterday (Apr 18), my 90-year-old mum went to a park near Park Villas Terrace (off Poh Huat Road West) for a walk and was attacked by a dog!

"The dog bit her on her arm, causing her to fall.

"She warded off the dog with her walking stick before the dog owner pulled it away & walked off without checking on my mum's state or even offering to help.

"My poor mum was left helpless on the ground, unable to get up until a female passerby helped her.

"She walked home in pain as she was bleeding, and with great difficulty as she had also hurt her back & rear from the fall.

"Her arm was badly bruised & there are two gashes on her lower-left arm, one of them 4cm long.

"My mum cannot identify this dog owner outright but she did provide us a rough description of the owner & his dog.

"He is a young man in his 20s, his dog is large and with fairly long fur that is golden brown in colour.

"From her description, it sounds like the pet was a golden retriever.

"We can't believe anyone could be so irresponsible and uncaring towards others, especially the elderly -- considering it was his dog which caused the injury!

"If anyone has witnessed this incident, or know of a man with a golden brown dog that fits this description, please contact us."

Golden retrievers are very gentle and caring dogs. They won't attack anyone unless they feel intimidated or scared. I believe that either your mom disturbed that dog or that dog is a mad dog.

I wholeheartedly agree with @Theblackone and sunnyblue that it's the owner's fault and not the poor dog. Yup as @Theblackone said put the freaking irresponsible owner down!

Is it even a dog bite? It dont look like the one I see before. But I don't own a dog. Scare of dog as being chased by dog before. Just want to clarify as didn't know that have different type of dog bites that differs from the one I see before.

Hope your mum get well soon.

I think it was bitten by a 'colour wolf'.

Golden retriever do bite. But then its not the dog's fault. Should make the owner responsible for the damage, pain and suffering.

Put down the owner not the dog. Its don't matter the owners side of the story. Its the owners responsibility that the dog must not attach someone in public. We need to have heavy fines for the owner.

Is it dangerous to look into the dog's eyes.... out of curiousity ? Thanks. I don't own a dog but sometimes when I jog past one, stare into the eyes, it starts to growl and bark. Usually the owner will pull it away quick enough.
