You are on your way to work, and the train is jam-packed with people. You even need to force your way out of the crowded train. STOMPer Annoyed feels something must be done about this 'big Jurong squeeze' before an accident happens.
However, it seems commuters will not experience this agony at Jurong East for much longer. In an accouncement last year (Aug 18), LTA said the Jurong East Modification Project (JEMP) will be ready by 2011.
Under this project, a new track and a new platform are being constructed to expand the capacity at Jurong East MRT Station, so that it can accommodate a larger crowd transferring between the North-South and East-West Lines. According to Minister Raymond Lim, the JEMP will be completed by May this year.
Said the STOMPer (Mar 22):
"Massive crowd at Jurong East MRT Station.
"I was on my way to work this morning and had a very unpleasant experience at Jurong East MRT Station.
"It was about 8.30am and the platform was jam-packed with tonnes of people going to work.
"I had a hard time squeezing out of the train as the crowd of people made their way into the train before I could even step out.
"It was like a major stampede could happen anytime!
"Minister Goh was right to say that we should learn from the Japanese and be more gracious.
"An accident might happen if someone should fall or trip during the squeeze.
"I hope SMRT will take action to solve this instead of reacting only when something happens."
STOMPer Augustine was also one of those stuck in 'the Jurong squeeze'. He sent in a video and said:
"This happened sometime between 8am to 8.30am on 22 Mar 2011.
"Even though I managed to finally get into the train, I could see many others behind me.
"What was most irritating was the automated message that said: 'If you cannot get into the train please wait for the next one'.
"I don't think we had a choice."

Why don't you compare with other first world nation like say, Hong Kong?
They are more gracious, they have a better standard of living and most importantly, their leaders do no not draw 1/4 the pay we are paying our ministers.
Some food for thought.
You have a choice. If you make the wrong choice, please don't whine again for the next 5 years.
