Ugly Commuters
Young people don't seem to know what priority seats are there for

Young people don't seem to know that priority seats should be reserved those who need them, says STOMPer Jason, who spotted a young man sleeping while seated on a priority seat in the MRT.

The man was not the only young person that was pretending to be asleep and depriving elderly people on the train of seats, says the sender.

It is upsetting to witness this in the train, he adds.

In an email, Jason says:

"Youngsters should go check the dictionary to see what the word 'priority' means.

"I was taking the MRT last night when I saw some young people sitting on priority seats even though there were three or four elderly people who needed the seats more.

"Something needs to be done about this attitude.

"It is an ugly sight to see."

i strongly believe that the allocation of priority seats is an utter insult to us singaporeans. the notion of giving up seats to the needy should come automatically as a civilised citizen...

why should you be lamenting about how selfish others are to hog the priority seats, while those who aren't sited on the priority aren't entitled to your criticisms?

and of cos, there are circumstances that commuters that are already extremely exhausted take their power nap on public transportation- let them be. give up your seat if you honestly think that someone else needs it more than you do. social graciousness comes from everyone, not just those on the priority seats.

@Bloody *****Mosquito, fully agreed.

Giving up priority seats is not a MUST.Its up to individual.No point of showing pic and sorts in Stomp.Instead of getting support,you will get bombardment from Stompers for not being realistic.So in future think before submitting your post.

Practice graciousness not incite hostility, worse being all self righteous and hypocritically pointing out the wrong of others, while you stay in your own comfort zone doing absolutely nothing to make it better for anyone. Personally i have asked a few guys and uncles to put down their bags and feet when the transport prove to be too pack for their selfish comfort...talk is cheap! You are just one of the many taking pictures and doing nothing at all to make the situation better? Till date, all of my approach didn't give me too much of a problem. Don't you know the Zz-monster have the habit of preying upon commuters the moment they sit down on public transports EXCEPT taxis. Beside your picture whoring, did you use your initiative to walk up to him and ask him to kindly give up the seat to anyone needing it? In fact the individual/s are more often than not, embarrassed at the request and move off immediately...problem solved. Don't dwell upon problems not seeking solutions, ok?
