Discourteous and selfish attitude on the MRT shocks disappointed tourists

It is a shame that Singapore is becoming an increasingly ungracious society, says a tourist from Scotland, who observed that young people here fail to give up their seats to the elderly in the MRT.

The visitor, who was in town recently, noticed that this selfish attitude is a recent trend which did not exist many years ago.

It is sad to see the younger generation of Singaporeans disregard the elderly and those who are more needy, he says.

In an email, STOMPer Sad Scottish visitor says:

"My wife and I travel on the MRT when visiting your city and we have done so for many years.

"However, we have noticed that the youth of today are not so respective of their elders as those in the past were.

"They no longer pay attention to the signs asking them to consider disadvantaged passengers and will not give up their seats at any cost.

"Both visitors and locals are treated with the same disregard.

"Singapore was once a great place to visit but now it has come to the same level as most large cities around the world.

"Such a shame!

"Maybe this situation can be reversed but I fear not with the present generation."

In the old days, 5 yr olds are asked to give up their seats. Today, 5 yrs olds must be given a seat on the mrt. Think about it and you know what our future generations will be like.

I ever seen a owner of a maid board bus together. and a elderly came up the bus and the bus as no space... the owner and maid was sitting on the reserved seats. guess wat, the owner asked the poor maid to stand up..i was super angry went i saw that..i think if one really have a kind heart, he or she will give up her own seat and not asked others to give up...

@ IceBlast . just to be on the safe side, let the lady, preg or fat, take your seat in case some kp bo liao "stomper kiah" take your picture and post it unedited here for all to see . doesnt help much is the fact that the mods allows things like these . dont think that even theres no one visible around that you are safe. stuffs like these ALWAYS happens on stomp.

once i saw a lady with a little humpy dummy standing in front of me while i'm on a mrt seat, i was scratching my head as to give her my seat or not, because i wasn't sure if she's pregnant, or just having extra fat. I didn't want to embarrass her too. Err.. difficult leh.
