Roland finds it hard to express his love for his mother as his family is awkward with expressing emotions.
Roland said:
"I found this contest while surfing and realized I should do this. I don't need to win the contest for any prize but to show her this. I realized through how the family communicates (with no thanks, sorry and expression of love within the entire family), we don't know how to love her enough for her to feel it - but we love each other and we know it.
"This is the best chance for me to express and air out my love to my mom. I know it may be rare for a guy to be one to do this but I love my mom so much that I'm not embarrassed to do this. I believe no pictures or videos can explain the love she has for me.
"My mom has always been a housewife taking care of my elder brother and two younger sisters. Spending too much time taking care of us throughout the years since after she got married at around 21, made her lose everything in life, having no friends throughout her years till now at 50 this year.
"With the family's awkwardness with expressing love, we often got into arguments and made her break down in tears - times like this makes me cry silently behind doors. The amount of love she has given us is something we can never fully repay in our entire life.
"The lack of friends and the loneliness deep inside her is what no one can ever understands A time in life that no money or anything can be exchanged for - because she loves us so much that we are her life. Many years back when her marriage was on the rocks, she often cries to us telling us she will stay with us no matter what because we are still young and unable to take the pressure of her divorce - and yes because she wants to be with us and she didn't wanted to risk losing the custody of us or to separate the siblings - where can such mom be found?!
Because of that, until now, it pains me to hear and know that she eats and shops alone during the day while the guys, which are the only people left in the house, are out working. Due to my love for her, I did not encourage her to work. However that could be the only way for her to make more friends and be exposed to the outside world. My sisters were her only companions throughout the years as the girls are more attached. A few years ago, they left for UK to study leaving my mom alone. I know it hurts her deeply. Even though I only see the strong side of her on the surface - I also know that she has a soft, fragile side.
"She never fails to remember my meals. Knowing that I am always skipping meals because of work, she would bring food and place it on my desk - yes, my dad does that too. She spents all her allowance she gets from my dad on all of us and only buy the cheapest food for herself :( - and she eats alone too.
"She buys unnecessary daily things which we should and would buy for ourselves - because she just wants to pamper us with the most luxury she could afford or within her ability. Also, buying the most nutritive foods for us and leaving it on the table just in case we are hungry. Buying expensive vitamins and reminding us to take them every day - because she wants us to be at our healthiest.
"The point is that all these money can be used for high tea, bird nest or gambling which some mums spend on. The kind of love she has for all her children reaches a level that no words can explain but has to be felt - we just know that she love us so much that if there's a need to sacrifice her life for us, she would - but we will not allow that to happen of course.
"The only thing I do is to listen to her everytime she needs someone to talk to even at my most frustrated day at work or with the pressure I'm having at work. It hurts when I have no remedy to her loneliness. She's aging and I'm afraid to lose her or any of my family.
"The only reason that I want be in this contest is to tell her that I love her so much that I'm ready to give up everything even my life - and I believe my siblings shares my sentiments.
"P.S. Our dad loves us too. "
