Despite mixing with the wrong crowd and getting caught on the wrong side of the law, Qian Hui's mother never gave up on her -- instead slowly encouraging her to become a better person. Today, Qian Hui is a totally changed person and she credits her mum for it.

"Hi readers, I’m Qian hui, 19 this year while my mum is 58. She spent half of her life working just to provide a better life for my family.
"When I was younger, I went astray once but my mum pulled me back when I was between live and death.
"My family wasn’t wealthy at all -- my dad doesn’t work and providing for a family of 6 living in a 4-room flat wasn’t easy at all.
"My mum worked day and night just to provide a better life for my family. She never fails to give me what I ask for -- she'd give me anything if she could afford it.
"As a rebellious teenager, I hate being discriminated by others. She knew that I was upset about it and will always tell me this: 'it doesn’t matter what others say about you. You’re my daughter and I love you for who you are'
"During that period of time, hatred filled my heart instead. In order not to get discriminated upon, I decided to be someone stronger than others; one that people will be afraid at the first look.
"So, I mixed with the wrong company and everyone in school started to call me 'Chao Ah lian'.
"By the age of 16, I had gotten myself into plenty of troubles with the law -- I was involved in gang fights and stealing cases and nearly got sent to the Girls' Home.
"Each time something like this happened, it breaks my mum's heart and shatter it into pieces yet she never gave up on me.
"Her patience paid off, with all her encouragement leading me to who I am now.
"I couldn’t imagine a single day without her in my life -- who should I turn to? She’s always there for me when I needed someone; when I broke off with my boyfriends, she’ll always be the one giving me a hug and consoling me; when I got too emotional over friendship problems, she’ll always give me advice on what should I do instead.
"She sacrificed half of her life worrying about me and my siblings -- she'll rather not spend a single cent on herself just to give us more.
"Her unconditional love and devotion is the greatest embrace on earth. I’ll like to apologise for all the silly things I’ve done in the past and take this chance to say it out to everyone -- Mummy, you mean the whole world to me, you really do. You definitely deserve this prize as a Mother’s Day gift.
"No matter the results, in my heart, you’re already the grand winner because you taught me how to become a better person in life.
"'M' is for the million things she gave me,
"'O' means only that she's growing old,
"'T' is for the tears she shed to save me,
"'H' is for her heart of purest gold;
"'E' is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"'R' means right, and right she'll always be,
"Put them all together and they spell MOTHER -- a word that means the world to me.
"'HAPPY MOTHER DAY, I LOVE YOU MUMMY.'
"YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THE SWEETEST THING THAT HAPPEN TO ME."
