Suntec City brawl: Victim upset that 2nd foreign suspect managed to flee S'pore

Paul Louis Liew Kai Ming, who was allegedly assaulted while trying to stop a fight at Suntec City, has questioned how a second suspect has managed to flee the country when his passport was supposed to be impounded by the authorities.

Robert James Springall jumped bail in December last year after Robert Stephen Dahlberg, a New Zealander, had failed to return from an overseas trip in July 2011.

According to a report in The New Paper, Springall and Dahlberg had attended a charity boxing event at Suntec City in April 2010 with a third man, Nathan Robert Miller. The trio were believed to have been drunk and made their way to a taxi stand, where Miller had jumped onto the bonnet of a stationary taxi and attacked cabby Tan Boon Kin.

Paul Louis Liew Kai Ming and Laurence Wong Seong, who had booked a taxi and were waiting for it to arrive, called the police after seeing the commotion but got embroiled in a brawl with the other group of men.

Miller, an Australian business development manager, has since been sentenced to three weeks' jail after pleading guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt for attacking Tan. Another cabby, Tay Gek Heng, had also been hurt in the brawl.

Liew, who suffered a fractured nasal bone, was upset that Springall managed to flee Singapore, especially since Dahlberg had done the same earlier.

A police spokesperson has also announced that warrants for the arrest of Springall and Dahlberg have been issued, and that police officers found to have been negligent in their duties will face disciplinary action.

"I'm glad to hear the police are investigating how their own officers might have been negligent in the handling of this case.

"By right, it should have been impossible for suspects to flee the country if their passports had been impounded by the police, but look what happened.

"This goes to show that no one is above the law, and that all who are guilty should be punished.

"I hope the police manage to located them so justice is served."

That fxxx diplomat will be protected by his own country. High chance he can wriggle his way out but his reputation is tarnished and he will die a tragic and guilty death
