Man chucks firecracker down manhole, triggering massive gas explosion

This man in China thought it would be a cool prank to chuck a lit firework down a manhole, only to have it blow up in his face as it triggered a methane pocket in the sewer.

STOMPer Boom wrote:

"Here's why you should never chuck a naked flame down a manhole under any circumstances.

"Chances are the sewer contains lots of methane gas, a by-product of all the decomposition that takes place in the sewer below the ground.

"Methane is highly explosive as everyone knows.

"The result is predictable -- and extremely dangerous. The gas in the sewer ignited, of course, blowing the manhole cover directly into the face of the unfortunate man.

"I hope he survived, but that was one hell of a blast."
