A fire broke out at a shophouse in the Bukit Timah area near where they were having dinner, says STOMPer Jocelyn. Her friend Steven took the initiative to borrow a water pipe and a ladder from a resident nearby to put out the fire.
STOMPer Jocelyn's friend recounted the incident over the phone (Feb 3):
"We were having dinner in a restaurant called Old Ponggol Choon Seng Seafood Restaurant at 14 Greenwood Avenue, in the Bukit Timah area.
"Around 8 to 8.30pm, we were asked to move our cars which were parked behind as a fire had broken out at 1A Greenvale Avenue.
"It was the second storey unit, and it seemed no one was home at the time of the fire.
"The fire was blazing so we went to the neighbouring restaurants and asked to borrow their fire hoses to fight the fire.
"Our friend Steven went to the nearby residential units to borrow a water pipe and a ladder.
"He fought the fire from the second storey, and we managed to extinguish it.
"Shortly after the fire had broken out, the police came and helped to direct traffic. The SCDF also arrived."
STOMP contacted the SCDF and a spokesperson said:
"We received a call at 8.21pm informing us of the fire at 1 Greenvale Avenue.
"We deployed 2 fire bikes, 1 fire engine, 1 Red Rhino and 2 support vehicles.
"Upon arrival at the scene 8 minutes after receiving the call, we put out the fire within 5 minutes.
"The fire happened in the living room of the the second floor of a shophouse, which is a residential unit, about 20x10m.
"No one was injured as the occupants had self-evacuated."

From the timing stated above it looks like Steven who put out the fire,
But SCDF also stated that they are the ones who put out the fire upon arriving.
So is this tricky riddle for us to solve?
