'It looks like a komodo dragon': Huge monitor lizard spotted in Kallang River

STOMPer Elise saw a creature that looked like a 'komodo dragon' swimming in Kallang Reservoir. The animal, which is probably a huge monitor lizard, have also been seen in other parts of Singapore.

Said the STOMPer:

"Last Thursday while we were walking our dog along Kallang Reservoir (near Costa Rhu Condo), we noticed a huge creature swimming in the water.

"After looking at the pictures taken by a friend of ours, we believe this is a Komodo Dragon.

"How did it get to Kallang reservoir? As the reservoir is daily used for boating and other water activities, we thought we should report this."

He looks like he was just trying to cool down with a swim and taking shelter under a shade. But his privacy got invaded by you. But at least it show's our local wild life can still survive in our concrete jungle.

Oh that fella, I always seen him around, sometimes he goes to East Coast. He digs sand out of drain holes very fast though, sometimes Area A sometimes Area G. But careful, do not leave any newborn babies unattended in his presence, and the same goes for monkeys.

Thanks for posting this article, Elsie. It is heartwarming to know that such huge reptiles are still able to survive in the Kallang River, despite the generally unfavourable living conditions. I have seen a number of them swimming freely at the Malacca River. Glad to know that we have them in Singapore too.
