AVA will only provide cages: Residents have to trap wild monkeys themselves

STOMPer Mona spotted this monkey at Lakeside Grove in Jurong, but when she approached the AVA for help, she discovered that she had to trap it herself, using cages provided by the AVA.

Said the STOMPer:

"We spotted this monkey peeking into a neighbour's house.

"We tried requesting help to move the monkey to a park but AVA can only provide cages.

"We had to trap the monkey ourselves!"

Call ACRES for help. Although they are only a NGO but they are experts in wildlife and trap and release all suitable animals humanely. AVA just send some outsourced party to catch and kill (they even use Malaysian company!!!). What if these guys dunno how to catch anyhow rough catch and anger the monkeys? Forget about AVA, useless department.

So did you trap the monkey or not? The problem is that AVA euthanises (i.e. puts to sleep) any monkeys that are trapped. Relocation is also usually not an option, because it usually means that the monkey ends up separated from its troop, and will not be able to fit in with any resident monkey troops in the new location where it is released.

The best course of action is to close the windows/install window grilles to prevent the monkey from entering homes and creating trouble.

The owner should install window grills and that will prevent any monkey from sneaking into the house for food.
