A female pedestrian, believed to be a jaywalker, was knocked down by a bus in Little India last night (Dec 29).
STOMPer Jiayi, one of the passengers on the bus, said:
"I was on bus 147 at about 10.30pm in Little India when a female pedestrian was knocked down by the bus.
"The bus was going at moderate speed (Little India is extremely crowded and it couldn't possibly speed), when suddenly there was hysterical screaming, and the passengers were extremely flustered and afraid.
"Passersby signalled for the bus driver to stop. A passenger called for the ambulance, while another woman went to examine the situation.
"She assured the passengers that the lady had not sustained major injuries, and that the screaming was from a flustered passenger and not the injured jaywalker.
"The police arrived in about two minutes, while the ambulance took about 10 minutes to arrive. Fortunately there was a nurse around to tend to the lady.
"Police asked for witnesses, and the passengers had to alight from the bus.
"The ride was complimentary as a result. The bus driver was very professional and polite throughout and apologised to the passengers for the incident although he looked weary and worn out.
"A passenger was heard telling him, 'Don't worry man, it's just your luck, take care'.
"The injured jaywalker is the one in the pink shirt holding on to the barrier."
Police said in response to a STOMP query:
"Police were informed of an accident between a bus and a pedestrian at about 10.30pm at Serangoon Road.
"The pedestrian, a 40-year-old woman, was conveyed with injuries to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
"Police investigations are ongoing."
