A cabby was caught watching videos on his smartphone while driving instead of concentrating on the road by a STOMPer, who also mentioned that the taxi driver wasn't holding on to the steering wheel but the phone which was on the wheel.
The STOMPer wrote:
“I witnessed and experienced dangerous driving as I boarded a Comfort taxi (SHA 7075M) at around 12.45pm at Redhill Road earlier this afternoon (Dec 29).
“After I boarded the cab, the driver was copying the list of completed job tasks shown on the electronic screen into his notebook.
“I thought that was just for a while as he stopped and continued driving to my destination.
“To my horror, he took out his iPhone and played with it, searching for videos online on YouTube.
“He kept on playing with his phone until the taxi passed Alexandra Hospital and was heading towards the expressway to Clementi.
“He was also watching the videos he found while driving, looking at the roads on and off while holding onto the phone which was rested on the steering wheel instead of having a firm grip of the steering.
“I was worried for my safety.
“I believe the focus is not whether I did tell him off – I know i should – but that this manner of driving jeopardizes lives. I cannot condone such acts.
“I had brought this up to ComfortDelgro who told me they will investigate and offered me $30 vouchers as a gesture of goodwill.
“This isn't about compensation. I'm not hard up for the $30. My life is worth more than that!
“I also demanded to be updated of the progress of the case. This driver must be punished!”
