A tree providing shade to a nearby nursery and market was cut down along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, because it died after lightning struck it, says the Town Council.
This was in response to a post, in which STOMPer Jackie lamented about the loss of the tree.
A spokesperson from the Ang Mo Kio Town Council responded:
"Ang Mo Kio Town Council would like to clarify that the tree mentioned in the article was previously struck by lightning during a heavy downpour.
"After monitoring the condition of the tree, our horticulture team found that the tree is dead. An appointed professional arborist certified that the deceased tree must be removed for safety reason.
"Ang Mo Kio Town Council would like to take an opportunity to assure all residents that all necessary inspection and professional certification was carried out before any tree is removed in the estate."
