S'pore grads not good enough? Recruitment ad targets foreign uni grads

STOMPer J. Lee was irked by a recruitment email for jobs in Singapore, sent out by what appears to be a local firm, that apparently targets only graduates from foreign universities.

Says the STOMPer:

"I am a Singaporean studying overseas in Australia. I recently logged in to my student e-mail account and got greeted with an e-mail from my school's career services.

"The screenshot has been attached for your perusal. The e-mail forwarded was a mass mail sent out to all graduating students and it irked me because of a few issues I have noticed:
1. The reluctance to expand university places
2. Double standards

"In news reports I read recently, the main issue highlighted was that there is a fear that there are not enough positions available for university graduates.

"I found this e-mail I received from Contact@SG a big double standard and if I may add, I feel rather betrayed.

"In order to pursue higher education, I myself was deprived of a local university education and had to spend an exorbitant amount to study overseas. Yes, there is such an organisation going out and about actively recruiting FRESH graduates.

"My sister, being a fresh graduate in an overseas university, has been actively finding a job months before her official graduation date in Australia, yet to no avail from companies overseas.

"She did not receive such 'invitations' to work overseas as well. Even with good grades and recommendations.

"My friends, who are current fresh graduates in Singapore are also facing a difficult time landing a job.

"Why is this e-mail still being mass sent to foreign fresh graduates, when Singaporeans themselves are having a rather rough year?

"So are overseas fresh graduates also equivalent to "foreign talents" right now? Is this so-called a "Singaporean first" policy now?

"Food for thought."

U know why all the cheena come here to study or work? Cause we have higher education standards and more pay to workers. I think the government give foreigners jobs here so that other countries can see that we are generous, thus the government can improve contacts and get other countries to invest in Singapore. Chao chee bai.
