A STOMPer writes in with her experience with a landlord. The landlord and her husband, the STOMPer recounts, was unreasonable towards her and often neglected their own dog.
The STOMPer wrote:
"I used to be a tenant in an apartment in Bukit Panjang Ring Road.
"Recently, the landlord demanded that I move out from her flat immediately at midnight because I refused to comply to her unreasonable demands.
"Some demands were: Disallowing me to use the washing machine or the vacuum cleaner as she complained of scratches on the vacuum cleaner even when I’ve only used it once. She also doesn’t not allow me to open the windows, because she complained that the unit upstairs would throw urine down. Even after my sudden forced eviction, she didn't refund my deposit.
"This person’s social irresponsibility extends beyond animal abuse as she leaves unwanted furniture and items along the corridor which takes up a lot of space and creates a smell.
"She creates a lot of inconvenience, unnecessary dangers, hygiene issues and potential fire hazards to the entire block.
"When I was living at the flat, I noticed that both the landlord her husband would leave the dog, a silky terrier, caged in their toilet all day. They would not bring the dog out for walks, nor keep his living environment, the toilet, clean as the dog’s urine and faeces would be left in the cage for days.
"When they had to clear the waste due to the intolerable smell, they would not remove the dog from the cage or manually remove the waste. Rather, they would use a water hose to spray the urine and faeces down the small drain, leaving the dog completely drenched and trembling from the cold. This is an extremely inconsiderate and cruel way to clear the dog’s waste.
"Their irresponsible and cruel acts extended to physical abuse and shouting at the defenceless dog whenever it barks for attention, food, grooming or going out for walks.
"The silky terrier has never been groomed before, and as you can see from the photo, its nails are extremely long.
"No food is left for it whenever the couple leaves for holidays. The dog does not have toys, treats nor clothes.
"And it is absolutely inhumane not only does it not have basic food supplies, proper living environment, room to roam and grooming services, it is also abused.
"Note: Animal neglect is a form of passive abuse too.
"It’s saddening to see the helpless dog spending its entire life being caged, waiting to die in the toilet, unless there is intervention from a professional body."
