Music Changes Lives finalists wow audience in stage debut with Wang Lee Hom

On the evening of Dec 1, the four young finalists of the Brand's Music Changes Lives contest performed in front of a crowd of thousands, with a special appearance by singer-songwriter Wang Lee Hom.

The audience at the University Cultural Centre in the National University of Singapore were treated to a memorable performance by talents, not in any order of merit, Andy Chong Wen Da, Michelle Soh Yeng Lin, Spruce Teo Hongyun and Giam Yue Ling.

The show was opened by the first batch of Brand's Music Changes Lives winners with a cover of 'I Gotta Feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas. The main stars of the show, this year's finalists, then took the stage with their various instruments and varied musical genres.

Andy Chong on the electric guitar and his band opened the showcase of 2011 with ‘Let’s Go’. It was then followed by Michelle Soh playing the piano to a romantic era piece, ‘Schubert’s Impromptu Op 90 No 2’. Spruce Teo then blew the audience away with his saxophone skills on the song ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia keys. Subsequently, violinist Giam Yue Ling performed another Beethoven Pathetique sonata 3rd movement classic, ‘Beethoven Virus’.

Fans of international star Wang were also not disappointed. He performed three songs from his latest album. The Brand's ambassador also had a hand in picking the finalists, together with music producer and talent-spotter Ken Lim.

Other artistes present at the event were Tor+ from Thailand, Jonathan Leong, Tabitha Nauser and Taufik Batisah, who collaborated with the contest finalists.

The Brand's Music Changes Lives is in its second year, and the contest was hosted on STOMP. It aims to give young musicians in Singapore a chance to pursue their dreams, unlock their potential and showcase their talent. 68 entries were received in this year's contest.
