If you pass by City Square Mall and you see a giant sculpture that seems to look like a huge toilet, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. The sculpture was erected to create awareness of the world's sanitation crisis.
The four-metre-high sculpture was erected in conjunction with World Toilet Day on Nov 19 by Domex and the World Toilet Organisation. It is made of thousands of empty Domex bottles and is part of one of the exhibits of the upcoming Let's Observe Ourselves (LOO) Carnival on Nov 24 and 25 at the mall.
"Is this the only way 2.6 billion people will get to see a toilet". reads the message on the huge sculpture made of recycled materials. It signifies the 40% of the world's population who are still without access to proper sanitation. As a result, many die from easily preventable diseases like diarrhoea.
The sculpture will be placed at the fountain square of City Square Mall from Nov 21 to 25. There’s also a contest run during the LOO carnival for the public to guess the total number of bottles used.
