Glass panel falls but doesn't shatter -- it 'melts'

STOMPer Cherlynn is amazed to see this glass panel that had fallen onto the pavement outside Choa Chu Kang Interchange toilet, but instead of shattering into pieces, the glass appears to have 'melted'.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I was walking by Choa Chu Kang Interchange toilet when the whole piece of 'cheese' glass just melted and fell onto the floor.

"But all the other glass panels were perfectly fine.

"So how did this special piece become like that?"

Laminated glass is a type of safety glass that holds together when shattered. In the event of breaking, it is held in place by an interlayer, typically of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), between its two or more layers of glass. The interlayer keeps the layers of glass bonded even when broken, and its high strength prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces.
