The 5-storey tall 'geyser' that sprung up at Cecil Street last week (Oct 28) was caused by a damaged water main. National water agency PUB told STOMP that they will act against the contractor who damaged the pipe.
Said a PUB spokesperson:
"PUB, the national water agency, received a report on pipe damage from the contractor on Oct 28 at about 6pm. Our officers arrived on site and found a damaged water main. Immediate action was taken to plug the leak temporarily.
"Repairs to the water main were completed the same evening.
"PUB takes a serious view of the incident and will take necessary action against the contractor who damaged the water main.
"PUB welcomes feedback and members of the public call the PUB 24-hour Call Centre at 1800-2846600 or email PUBone@singnet.com.sg."
