Thailand floods: 320 dead, nearly 9 million affected

The massive floods in Thailand have killed 320 people, mostly from drowning, and affected nearly 9 million more. Bangkok has escaped serious flooding so far, as authorities have diverted the water to areas outside the main capital.

According to a report in today's Straits Times, however, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said it is impossible to protect all of Bangkok from the country's worst floods in decades.

Estimates of the economic cost are US$3 billion (S$3.8 billion) and rising.

Heavy monsoon rains and storms have ravaged Asia this year. The United Nations says at least 745 people have been killed since July in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines.

Don't waste money on buying car. Save to buy a yacht or a boat, sooner we might need it.
