STOMPer Stefanie shares a video recorded by a commuter of the train which broke down at Kallang station yesterday (Oct 14). The train was later pushed from behind by another train.
Wrote the creator of the video, uncleyap:
"At 5.53pm, on Oct 14, the train I was in failed to move after stopping at Kallang station, trapping us for 5 minutes.
"Later the doors were eventually opened and a train fault was announced.
"We were told to alight.
"Another train behind was stuck outside the station, on the track, because of the train which had broken down."Thus the passengers from the train behind were unable to alight, for at least 25 minutes.
"Later the train behind pushed the broken train out of the station so that its passengers could alight."
It was also chaos at Tanjong Pagar MRT during rush hour, reported STOMPer Rachel. The ticket gantries were closed.
STOMPer Dee was also stuck at City Hall station around 7.10pm, and could only board the fourth train.
She said:
"The trains came within intervals of about 6 minutes each, while those on the North South Line came within intervals of 2 minutes each.
"This long interval created a huge crowd of people at the platform, and hardly anyone could get into the train. Those who could had to push and shove their way through.
"About 10 trains from the North South Line came and went, and when I finally boarded the East West Line for a single stop to Bugis, I found myself pressed against and 'hugging' fellow commuters tightly.
"What a scary squeeze!"

Train services resumed at around 6.10pm, but passengers on the westbound services experienced longer waiting time between Kallang to Joo Koon due to the heavy evening peak hour passenger flow.
For safety reasons, between 6.00 to 6.20pm, passengers at Tanjong Pagar MRT station were requested to wait before entering through the faregates, to prevent overcrowding at platform.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused. Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys can file a claim at any of SMRT's 68 stations within the next 3 working days.
Yours sincerely
