STOMPer Poison Ivy found this huge insect, which appears to be a locust, in her home and had a hard time killing it. She wonders if this is a good or bad omen.
She says:
"I was shocked to find this huge insect when I woke up in the morning! It was the size of my middle finger.
"In a state of a panic, I sprayed a lot of insecticide on the insect but it did not move at all! I tried to push it down with a broom but it did not budge. After trying a few times, it fell on the floor and I covered it with a big container.
"I left it in the container for about 15 minutes and it made knocking noises while walking around before lying on the ground, half-dead. I went to check on it about an hour later and it was still shaking its legs. I left it there the whole day and came home to find it dead.
"Some of my friends told me that the insect may be a 'Pelisit', a grasshopper-like insect which is reared by a woman as a shield for protection, guidance, and most probably as a weapon to harm other people.
"Others say it's a good omen if a grasshopper makes its way into in a person's house.
"I'm not a really superstitious person, thus I usually just try to find a scientific explanation for everything.
"I live on the 12th floor in Tampines. I don't know if locusts are having their migration at this time of the year.
"If anybody knows a logical explanation for this, please tell me!"
