STOMPer Zinkazoid feels experience matters when it comes to hosting a getai show. She feels that the veteran stars are funnier and more spontaneous than the younger ones.
Said the STOMPer, who went to watch a getai show at Bukit Batok Avenue 8 last night (Aug 20):
"Having attended some Getai shows, I think the hosts of the show make a big difference to the fun you can watch at the shows.
"Even though the newer hosts are good, they are not as funny and spontaneous as the older ones.
"In last night's show, duo 珍妮 (Zhen Ni) and 蓝天 (Lan Tian) has so much chemistry, the crowd had much laughter and clapped resoundingly at certain jokes that were brought up. As Zhen Ni says, she is only 'so mad and shows her insane tactics' only when paired up to host with Lan Tian, 'forced to display a lot of energy' when hosting with him.
"I suppose at any getai show, the relationship between the host, performer and audience are interlinked -- as the duo build up dynamic rapport with the audience and got much interaction when them. The stage vs. ground audience on the ground divide was almost non-existent!
"Like kids once again, the banter and antics from Zhen Ni included constantly 'dumping' a big towel at her co-host as well as the audience, and it was really funny that to dance along to some of the singers' songs, hosts donned hats and danced with retro-looking steps to make everyone smile and feel truly entertained. Co-host Lan Tian even used a make-shift plastic bag as his 'hat'.
"Lan Tian also gave one of the best performances I've seen. Co-host Zhen Ni even commended that some getai artistes like him are really passionate, they really do risk their lives on stage as well, by incorporating 'stunts' like 'gymnastics'.
"Such is the Singapore culture! Check out the costumes for a taste of more getai local flavour."
