Hang-gliders of the sea: Why giant manta rays belong in the sea, not aquariums

You've probably heard of manta rays before, but did you know they are celebrated leapers? Till today, scientists are still baffled by their strange habit of launching themselves many feet into the air, only to slip elegantly beneath the waves moments later.

STOMPer WTFish wrote:

"Manta rays are graceful enough underwater, but when they leap into the sky they are simply unbelievable.

"Only four aquariums around the world currently keep these giant fish in captivity, but Singapore's own Resorts World Sentosa aquarium may soon rank amongst that number.

"Please don't lock these magnificent creatures behind glass -- they need the room to swim, migrate and of course, to do their trademark leaping!"

we are no different from China, by allowing RWS to capture and display wild creatures for entertainment and shows. For parents who carelessly bought the idea that such shows are educational - you will have a hard time explaining to your children HOW THESE ANIMALS ARE CAPTURED when you see the blood and cries.
