Feast your eyes on this 160-metre-long table, for it is Singapore's latest entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.
As part of the Singapore Food Festival, the table was constructed on July 23, 2011, at Race Course Road and seated 550 diners who enjoyed the spread of Indian cuisine served.
The festival's theme was curry and spices, and the food was catered by 20 of Singapore's finest Indian restaurants -- Gayatri, Jaggi's Northern Indian Cuisine, The Banana Leaf Apolo restaurant and so on.
It cost $100 per diner, but the money was well-spent as they tucked in to the sumptious feast of thosai, stews, fish-head curry, tandoori prawns, chicken masala and other dishes as 3,200 spectators looked on. Not to mention while they attempted a world record feat.
STOMPer Kapilan said of the achievement (Aug 5):
"The buffet spread on the 160m-long table at the food festival set a Guinness World record.
"It was organised by the Indian Restaurants Association of Singapore.
"Mr G. Shanmugam, 48, President the Indian Restaurants Association of Singapore, said of the longest table event: 'We wanted to make this a historic event that will be memorable for participants as well as restaurants involved.'"
