They're durian lovers too: Squirrels and monkeys go for king of fruits at Bt Batok

STOMPer seaeagle spotted squirrels and monkeys feeding on durians at the Bukit Batok Nature Park.

Said the STOMPer:

"Squirrels and monkeys love our local durians too!

"When you visit Bukit Batok Nature Park, you can spot them.

"Just watch out for the sign that reads, 'falling durians'."

If you look at the 4th & 5th photos, you can see how the Plantain Squirrel (Callosciurus notatus) gets to the durian pulp by gnawing holes into the spiny exocarp (ie. the "shell") of the fruits. These holes would then attract the birds & macaques to feast on the durians alongside the squirrels.

Btw the squirrels eat the fleshy petals of the durian flowers as well. And for those into bats, these are the creatures that pollinate the durian flowers, so that everyone else get to enjoy the fruits subsequently.
