STOMPer Chong and his family had great fun over the weekend -- they were taking the 'last train' on the KTM railway, made by his brother-in-law, Tong, 58.
Said Chong in his email (Jul 31):
"Thought this might be interesting for the viewers, being the last 'light' train constructed to run on the tracks! The designer and builder of the train is my brother-in-law Tong, 58.
"To build it, Tong took a couple of lunch hours at his workplace. After measuring the tracks, he made an aluminium frame with small wheels and a separate foldable wooden board. He also added two chairs to the 'train'.
"As he lives just across the road from the Rail Mall, we brought the separate parts to the track and assembled it on the spot. We had initially planned to do it on Saturday, but we ended up doing it on Sunday.
"After we set up, people started coming and taking pictures. They even took rides on our 'train'. We ended up staying for a couple of hours.
"Tong has always been very creative and good with his hands. He just had the idea to make this 'train' one day, although he is not really a railway enthusiast.
"The train is human-powered, someone pulls it along the tracks."
